There are 2 ways to search V.I. Guide. One way is utilizing the HotBot search engine; the other is to use this site's internal search mechanism.

The HotBot Search Engine

Using the HotBot search engine, you can search just this site or, by selecting from the drop-down list box, you can search certain groups of sites across the Internet that pertain to a particular subject area. Since these sites have already been filtered, you can rest assured that your search results will pertain to blindness and/or visual impairments and not, for instance, to a rock group called Blind Melon.

You search will automatically default to searching for ALL words you specify. Once you click on Search and your results are returned, you can further refine your search results, if desired. More tips on using HotBot are available too.

V.I. Guide's Internal Search Mechanism

Use the form below to search for documents in the V.I. Guide web site containing specific words or combinations of words. The text search engine will display a weighted list of matching documents, with better matches shown first. Each list item is a link to a matching document; if the document has a title it will be shown, otherwise only the document's file name is displayed.

Click on a document's link to go to that page. Then, use your browser's Find feature to find the part that contains references to the word(s) you searched for (Edit / Find (on this page) in Internet Explorer; Edit / Find in Netscape Navigator).

The text search engine allows queries to be formed from arbitrary Boolean expressions containing the keywords AND, OR, and NOT, and grouped with parentheses. For example:

assistive technology

finds documents containing 'assistive' or 'technology'

assistive or technology

same as above

assistive and technology

finds documents containing both 'assistive' and 'technology'

assistive not technology

finds documents containing 'assistive' but not 'technology'

(assistive not technology) and product

finds documents containing 'product', plus 'assistive' but not 'technology'

blind*

finds documents containing words starting with 'blind'
