Katie has been taking guitar (and piano) lessons at school. In addition to being pleasing to the ear and giving her more self-confidence, it's increasing her finger strength and dexterity.

Katie loved the book called "Brian's Bird", a story about a blind boy who got a parakeet named Scratchy for his birthday. In fact, she loved it so much, she asked for her own Scratchy (a cockatiel) for Christmas a few years ago. He would sit on her shoulder or hand as she did most anything. Unfortunately, the bird decided to bond with only one person (me) and Katie soon grew tired of being pecked. Scratchy now has a new home and Katie has learned to better appreciate our two cats. Ah, life's great lessons!
